At Martin Trunnion Tables, we pride ourselves on delivering cutting-edge workholding solutions that push the limits of CNC machining. Recently, we engineered what might be the largest trunnion table ever installed in a machining center—a 140” long x 30” wide single-piece steel trunnion table.
This massive Stallion L-Series trunnion was designed specifically for a HAAS VS-3, enabling our customer to machine large oil pans with unmatched efficiency and precision. At 5,000 lbs., this fixture required innovative engineering to ensure smooth operation, leading us to incorporate a counterbalance shock system to assist in indexing the heavy load.
The HAAS VS-3: Powering Large-Scale Machining
The HAAS VS-3 is a large-frame vertical machining center, designed for heavy-duty machining of oversized workpieces. With 150” of X-axis travel, 50” in Y, and 50” in Z, this machine is built for extreme applications. Its 50-taper spindle delivers the power required for cutting large-scale components with high accuracy and repeatability.
By integrating the Stallion L-Series 140” trunnion table, our customer now benefits from:
✅ Reduced setups – Eliminating repositioning saves valuable cycle time
✅ Improved accuracy – Minimizing stack-up errors from multiple fixtures
✅ Maximized machine capacity – Fully utilizing the VS-3’s machining envelope

Engineered for Heavy Loads: RWB500, SSB310 & Counterbalance Shock System
Given the 5,000 lb. weight of the Stallion L-Series trunnion, ensuring stability, precision, and load control was critical. To handle this extreme setup, we implemented:
🔹 RWB500 Rotary Table – A high-torque rotary solution built for heavy-duty indexing while maintaining precision.
🔹 SSB310 Support Bearing – Providing essential rigidity and support to reduce deflection and maintain machining accuracy.
🔹 Counterbalance Shock System – To assist in indexing the massive trunnion, we engineered a counterbalance shock system mounted to the back of the rotary table. This feature helps reduce strain on the rotary table, ensuring smooth, controlled movement and extending the life of the entire system.

This strategic combination ensures seamless, repeatable indexing, preventing excess wear on the rotary system and maximizing long-term performance.
The Impact of the Stallion L-Series
For manufacturers working with large, heavy components, achieving both efficiency and precision can be a challenge. Traditional fixturing methods require multiple setups, increasing cycle times and the risk of human error. With the Stallion L-Series 140” trunnion table, our customer has dramatically improved their machining speed, accuracy, and overall production output.

At Martin Trunnion Tables, we don’t just build trunnions—we engineer custom workholding solutions to tackle the most demanding machining applications. Whether you need a standard Stallion Series trunnion or a fully customized L-Series solution, we have the expertise to help you optimize your manufacturing process.
